Careers at Basinfoundry

Build the operating layer for U.S. land services.

We're a small team of engineers and operators automating the slow, repetitive work that eats the margins of land services firms. If you want to ship software that lands on real courthouse records, deploys inside client offices, and changes how a hundred-year-old industry actually works — we should talk.

A handful of non-negotiables that guide the work.

We hire slowly and we hire for these. Skills are table stakes; how you show up is what matters. If any of these feel off, we're probably not the right place.

i.

Customers are the work.

We embed inside client offices, sit with senior examiners, and learn the job before we automate it. No ivory-tower roadmaps. Every line of code has a name attached to it on the other end.

ii.

Ship on a fixed-price pilot.

We bet on ourselves every engagement. Thirty to forty-five days, one real project, a real outcome. That discipline forces us to build things that matter, not things that demo well.

iii.

Accuracy is a feature.

A missed instrument can cost a client seven figures. We build with audit trails, human-in-the-loop review, and a bias toward "flag for the examiner" over "ship and hope."

iv.

Generalists over specialists.

Our engineers talk to clients. Our account managers read code. Our leadership still ships. The team is small on purpose and we protect it fiercely.

v.

Clear over clever.

Plain language in our docs, our emails, our product, and our post-mortems. If a senior landman can't understand what we built, we haven't finished building it.

vi.

Own the outcome.

Titles here are thin; ownership is thick. You're not assigned to a ticket queue. You're assigned to a client, a market, or a system, and you make it work.

We're hiring for four positions.

All roles are full-time in Houston or San Francisco, hybrid by default — expect regular travel to client offices as part of the role. Click any role to read the full description.

01
Forward Deployed Engineer
Full-time
Houston or San Francisco

Live inside a client's office for a week. Come back and ship the thing that makes their next project 70% faster.

What you'll do

  • Embed on-site with land services firms — title shops, ROW teams, leasing outfits — for 2–5 day discovery sprints. Sit with senior examiners, shadow the workflow, document the pain.
  • Configure and extend Basinfoundry's automation pipeline to match each firm's exact runsheet format, report templates, and QC standards.
  • Own the first live workflow from kickoff to production in under 14 days, then tune until the firm is running 80%+ of retrieval and drafting through us.
  • Be the named engineer on 3–6 client accounts. When they hit a new county, a weird curative case, or a deadline crunch — you pick up the phone.
  • Feed the core product team real, client-grounded requirements so we build the right abstractions, not speculative ones.

What we look for

  • 3+ years shipping production software, ideally in Python or TypeScript. Comfortable across the stack — you can wire a Postgres schema, write a parser, and debug an OCR pipeline in the same afternoon.
  • You genuinely like talking to non-technical domain experts and translating their process into software. Former founders, solo consultants, and "the one engineer who always goes on-site" thrive here.
  • Bias toward shipping the scrappy 80% in week one and hardening it in week two. Comfortable with ambiguity and missing spec.
  • Bonus: exposure to title, land, legal-tech, courthouse records, or any domain with scanned PDFs and regulated workflows.

Compensation

  • Competitive base + meaningful equity. We'll talk specifics on the call.
  • Travel fully covered. Flexible PTO and the cultural permission to actually take it.

02
Senior Account Manager — Renewables
Full-time
Houston or San Francisco

Own our renewables book. Solar, wind, transmission, storage. Turn 500-tract RFPs into repeatable, high-margin engagements.

What you'll do

  • Own the full lifecycle of renewables accounts — land services firms serving solar and wind developers, plus direct relationships with mid- and large-cap developers running in-house land teams.
  • Scope large, time-boxed packages (500+ tracts, 30–90 day deliveries) and co-price them with our engineering team so we're profitable and the client wins their bid.
  • Run the ongoing relationship: weekly syncs, delivery check-ins, expansion conversations. Be the voice of the client inside Basinfoundry.
  • Hunt intelligently — conferences, referrals, warm intros from our existing book. We don't expect you to cold-dial; we expect you to close.
  • Partner with our Forward Deployed Engineers so every account has a clean handoff from sale to delivery.

What we look for

  • 7+ years in land services, renewables development, or adjacent roles (ROW/title/leasing) — ideally with at least 3 years specifically in solar, wind, or transmission.
  • You've quoted, scoped, and delivered large land packages before. You understand why a 400-tract solar project is different from a 40-tract one, and you can speak credibly to a VP of Land.
  • Strong commercial instincts — you can price risk, negotiate scope, and walk away from a bad contract.
  • Bonus: existing relationships inside NextEra, EDF, Invenergy, AES, Orsted, or the renewables land services firms that serve them.

Compensation

  • Competitive base + variable tied to account revenue + meaningful equity.
  • Real ownership of a vertical. If you build the book, you run it.

03
Senior Account Manager — Oil & Gas
Full-time
Houston or San Francisco

Own our oil & gas book. E&P operators, title firms, mineral management. The deepest, most technical corner of U.S. land work.

What you'll do

  • Own the full lifecycle of O&G accounts — title firms serving operators, in-house land teams at independent and mid-cap E&Ps, and mineral management companies across the Permian, Eagle Ford, SCOOP/STACK, Haynesville, and Bakken.
  • Scope mineral title runs, drill-site title, DOTOs, curative packages, and lease acquisition support. Price them so both sides win.
  • Translate the client's technical vocabulary — nippled-up, HBP, division orders, pooled units, unreleased mortgages — into a scope our team can deliver against.
  • Be the long-term relationship for principals and land managers who've been burned by tech vendors before. Credibility is the currency here.
  • Partner with engineering to fold O&G-specific workflows (60-year lookbacks, complex mineral chains) into the core product.

What we look for

  • 10+ years in oil & gas land, title, or leasing. Ideally a mix of operator-side and firm-side experience.
  • Current CPL or RPL is a plus. Deep familiarity with Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and North Dakota courthouse systems and conveyancing quirks.
  • You've sold to — or been the buyer inside — a land services firm before. You know how these decisions actually get made.
  • Comfort being on the road. The best O&G relationships still get built at the Petroleum Club, not over Zoom.

Compensation

  • Competitive base + variable tied to account revenue + meaningful equity.
  • Full ownership of the O&G vertical with clear path to VP as we scale.

04
Software Engineer
Full-time
Houston or San Francisco

Build the core platform — document parsing, agentic extraction, runsheet generation, and the workflow engine that runs alongside every client's team.

What you'll do

  • Build and own parts of our automation pipeline: county portal scrapers, OCR and document classification, grantor/grantee extraction, legal description normalization, and runsheet/report generation.
  • Work closely with Forward Deployed Engineers to turn field-discovered requirements into durable abstractions — not bespoke client branches.
  • Design the human-in-the-loop surfaces where examiners review, correct, and sign off. Every edit they make has to flow back into the system as training signal.
  • Pick the right tool for the job — LLMs where they're robust, deterministic code where they're not. We care about accuracy, not ideology.
  • Help shape engineering culture as employee 5–15. Code review standards, on-call, production hygiene — you'll own pieces of all of it.

What we look for

  • 4+ years of production engineering experience. Strong in at least one of: Python, TypeScript, Rust, or Go. Comfortable in the others.
  • You've shipped systems that process messy, real-world data at scale — document pipelines, ETL, search indices, financial or legal-tech, data extraction, or ML infrastructure.
  • Taste for simplicity. You reach for Postgres, boring queues, and clear interfaces before you reach for a framework.
  • Bonus: experience with OCR (Tesseract, Azure Form Recognizer, Reducto, Unstructured), document LLM pipelines, agentic systems, or any domain with 80-year-old scanned paperwork.

Compensation

  • Competitive base + meaningful early-stage equity.
  • Real engineering problems, real users, a small team that ships every week.
